IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. I agree that in future the more people will read everything only as it is available easily in our phones and laptops.
The main reason is that the people want the easy thing in their life as the reading everything online is very easy accessible and also available easily. We can read the news on mobile phones and laptops and it is very ease to read there. As the technology is increasing the people are using it in a good way and large number of peoples are reading all the things online.
The other reason, is that the online reading saves the ink, printing material and transportation cost. The people need to go to buy the newspaper and books it was time consuming thing. So the people are avoiding it and they are reading all the content online as it is all available there. This also make digital reading more easy than buying printed books,
However, some people love to read the news and books printed as the people who are aged do not like to read online. Although the group is low as more people reading it online. It is the personal choice of any person.
In conclusion, I strongly agree the online reading is easily available and accessible everywhere so large number of people will read it online. It also saves the printing and transportation cost. However some people like reading with printed things but the number of peoples are very low and in future it will be replaced by online reading.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the shift toward online reading. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'easy access' is repeated across the first and second paragraphs without adding new depth. While the counter-argument is acknowledged, it is not fully explored, and the conclusion simply restates the initial points rather than synthesizing them. To reach a higher band, you should focus on providing more nuanced supporting details, such as the impact on publishing industries or the environmental benefits of digital media, rather than repeating the same points about convenience.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'The main reason is' and 'The other reason' are used to signal points, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs are sometimes abrupt. For example, the shift from discussing cost to the inconvenience of buying books in the third paragraph lacks a smooth logical connector. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the group', 'it') is always clear would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'easy', 'good', and 'things'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'very ease to read' instead of 'very easy to read' or 'very convenient'. To improve, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'digital transformation', 'accessibility', 'cost-effective', or 'tangible media'. Expanding your range to include less common lexical items will help you demonstrate a higher level of control and precision in your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the more people will read'), incorrect word forms (e.g., 'very ease'), and missing articles. Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the reading everything online is very easy accessible'. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be a great next step.
