Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays. technology is developing rapidly over the period of time. It helps people work more convenient. In the future, people buy fewer newspapers or books due to technological development and most materials are easily available online free of charge. Overall6.5

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the shift toward digital media and the continued relevance of printed materials. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the convenience of digital media is mentioned multiple times without adding new depth. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported argument rather than restating the same point. The conclusion is a bit wordy and slightly contradicts the 'partly agree' stance by focusing heavily on why print remains necessary, which could be balanced better.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Moreover' to link your points. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting sentences with 'Also' repeatedly. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as 'many information provide free of charge,' where the subject-verb agreement and the use of 'many' with an uncountable noun disrupt the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'current affairs,' 'technological development,' and 'accessibility.' However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'reduce the buyer of newspapers' (should be 'reduce the number of buyers') and 'many information provide' (should be 'much information is provided'). The repetition of basic verbs like 'buy' and 'read' limits your score. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure you are using word forms correctly (e.g., 'convenient' vs 'convenience').

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('technological development reduce'), incorrect verb forms ('materials are take some charges'), and missing articles. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences in the conclusion. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately without losing control of the grammar.
