IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent years, due to rapid technological developments, it is said that the news available on online platforms will be completely replaced by the printed newspapers in the future due to its ease to access. Although a significant proportion of people are interested in online news, i believe that health benefits and an ease to read printed newspaper would benefit people and motivate them to read printed newspapers rapidly.
One main benefit of printed newspaper is that it has nearly no impact on people's health especially their eyesight. While reading online newspapers, it is observed that the display light in smartphones impacts on eyesight of younger generations and that's why many children in their younger ages wear glasses. However, printed newspaper have no such impacts and it is ideal to read a newspaper in the area surrounded by greenery and to read a newspaper attentively there. Moreover, people also feel tired and exhausted while reading online newspapers due to attention problem and also if a person would use mobile continuously, this may result in headache compared with printed newspaper which is a healthy option.
Another major benefit is that it is calm and peaceful option to read news on paper rather than facing distractions while reading newspaper on online platforms. Notifications in mobile creates distraction for people and it becomes difficult to concentration for longer. Furthermore, people start to involve in other activities such as chatting, watching videos, and scrolling though reels instead of focusing on their actual task. Therefore, the benefits of printed newspaper would not let its readers to reduce its importance in the future.
In conclusion, printed newspaper is the most relaxing and flexible way to concentrate on the actual task and it has no negative impacts on health as well. These benefits may help increase its significance and demand in the future due to disadvantages of reading online news.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that printed media will disappear. You have identified relevant arguments, such as health concerns and the distraction-free nature of physical books. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the health argument is revisited multiple times without adding new depth. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same concept. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the initial premise in the introduction contains a slight confusion regarding the prompt's wording, as you suggest online news will replace printed newspapers, which is the opposite of the prompt's premise.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'its importance' refers back to 'printed newspaper' but the antecedent is slightly distant). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by varying the linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds directly upon the previous one rather than just listing points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological developments,' 'distractions,' and 'significance.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'ease to read' instead of 'ease of reading' and 'it becomes difficult to concentration' instead of 'it becomes difficult to concentrate.' While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'printed newspaper' throughout the text. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic synonyms would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the display light,' 'the eyesight') and subject-verb agreement ('printed newspaper have,' 'notifications... creates'). Additionally, some sentence constructions are slightly awkward, such as 'the benefits of printed newspaper would not let its readers to reduce its importance.' While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To achieve a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining your use of articles and pluralization.
