IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that physical books and newspapers will be useless in the future because people will shift to free online alternatives. I completely agree with this prediction because digital platforms offer convenience for getting news of current global affairs, and the integration of AI has successfully transitioned educational model to digital formats.
Online news platforms are replacing the newspapers because they are faster and easy to access. Physical newspapers are printed only once a day and requires physical distribution while online news-channels updates rapidly in real-time. For instance, major news apps (like BBC) use instant push notifications to inform users as early as possible of new updates. The users of all newspaper's companies are reducing each year due to the development in online-news's pages offering free updates.
In addition to that, AI has changed the model of education on a significant level. Advancement in computers allowed the system to replace physical books by e-books. Digital textbooks are powered by AI which updates regularly and offer addon of new information which is absent in printed books. For example, the schools in Japan use e-books (like Apple Books) which provides personalized reading materials to students instantly and completely free of charge. Consequently, as future generations grow accustomed to these free books, the demand for expensive physical books will entirely disappear
In conclusion, I firmly believe that physical newspapers and books are destined to become obsolete as free digital alternatives expand. This shift is inevitable because online news platforms provide unmatched convenience and real-time updates for global affairs, while the integration of artificial intelligence offers superior, cost-free interactive tools that are actively replacing traditional educational media.
