IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In coming time, there would be no need for the production of newspaper or books because, people would have every information they want on the internet without a charge fee, in my opinion I disagree with this statement.
Firstly, The cost of information and communication technology gadgets(ICT), is on the rise each day and won’t be availably affordable to everyone. With the rise in price of gadgets like smartphones, laptops and iPads, it would be difficult to afford a device in the future. The price of smartphones is already on the increase with companies like Apple,Samsung and itel putting a compulsory subscription to their news services, which is presently making individuals abstain from such products unless financially buoyant, and with the strategy used by these top companies these developments has come to stay, these new developments make individuals adhere to physical books.
Secondly, Books, newsarticles and stories written in the web for download or to read is a means of income to the author. Pare-venture, in the coming future newspapers won’t be regarded, nor books be valued as it is today, it won’t be free. It would be a lucrative business opportunity for writers and authors who are into printing press. For instance, if the government restricts the publishing company “The Times ” from reporting news through newspapers, they would venture into online publishing as well even opening a television station. In addition the continuous use of screen can be detrimental to health both for kids and adults. Irrespective of the charges that might be allocated online, it’s not advisable to let children use screen at an early age because of its effects to their eyes and brains.
Furthermore , I do not believe that printed newspapers and books will disappear completely. Many readers still prefer physical books because they are easier on the eyes, do not require electronic devices or internet access, and provide a more enjoyable reading Experience.
In conclusion, despite, the new implementation by gadgets of subscriptions to news services, or through the internet being individuals major source of income, I still believe that newspapers and books will not go extinct because many readers still prefer physical books.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments, such as the cost of technology and the health implications of screen time, to support your disagreement. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or lack logical flow; for instance, the argument about authors' income is somewhat confusingly phrased, as it suggests that if newspapers are not valued, they won't be free, which is a contradictory point. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point directly reinforces your main thesis without introducing confusing or tangential logic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to structure the text. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'Pare-venture' (which is not standard English) and the awkward transition 'these developments has come to stay, these new developments make individuals adhere to physical books'. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the flow of your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'lucrative', 'detrimental', and 'financially buoyant'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'charge fee' instead of 'subscription fee' or 'cost', and 'in coming time' instead of 'in the future'. Additionally, there are some minor errors in word formation and collocation. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are precise and contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'these developments has come'), punctuation errors (e.g., missing spaces after commas and periods), and awkward sentence construction. Some sentences are run-on or lack proper coordination. To achieve a higher band, you should work on reducing these errors by proofreading for basic grammar rules and varying your sentence structure with more complex, error-free clauses.
