IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In modern societies, people prefer to read online rather than the printed material. Some people believe that nobody will purchased printed books or magazines in the future, as everything available free on internet. I totally agree with statement because social media is providing all the required content in the real time and without paying.
I believe that the printed books and magazines will be no longer needed in the future, due to several reasons Firstly, it needs a significant time to find an appropriate printed book or magazine that are required by an individual. However, advancements in digital technology allow everyone to get the required material within minutes available online. For instance, it takes a lot of time to find a specific book from the library, the same book could be downloaded within few minutes, even without going anywhere. So, it saves time as well as a convenient approach.
Beside that, the current climate change is one of the major concern of the society, and people have realized that a large number of trees are cut every year for printing books and magazines. Consequently, we lose valuable trees, which play an important role in maintaining our environment's temperature and prove us oxygen. So, that is why they consider to read online. In addition, printed materials are not needed after a specific purpose, which results in waste of paper as well as the ink. For example, a magazine printed for today, will be useless tomorrow.
In contrast, some people think that reading by printed material have longer effect on the mind, and prevent eye strain. Although, these reasons can not be denied, the disadvantages of printed media outweigh the advantages.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that people will be reading online in the future because it is easy to access, free, and environmentally friendly for the society in long terms.
