IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's world, technology has become an integral part in individual's life, which has given people free access to materials such as audiobooks, books, newspaper and many more. Some people argue that in future printed newspaper and physical books will have a low demand due to its free access on internet. I agree to this notion to some extend, as high demand of online access to such things can be beneficial, however, it might have few drawbacks.
To commence with the statement, the most prominent reason for less demand of physical copies of newspaper and books is because of the development in technology. Nowadays, technology had developed so further that going back can be risky, as it gives free and quicker access to facilities. For example, youth in today's world often are busy using internet and technology which provides them facilities and information online. This helps them get a faster approach to such things. Therefore, such facilities are well-liked by individuals, decreasing the need for a physical copy.
Moving further, another reason to support the notion is to demonstrate the range in prices. This might be the reason that nobody in future will buy printed newspaper or book. In future, the digital version of such things might be available in less price or free, reducing the need of physical one. In addition to that, the growing demand for saving trees may also be the reason which causes individuals to access digital copies.
Opposingly, the statement can be disagreed because there might be individual who still likes to read hardcopies of newspaper or book, leading them to continue their preferences which continues the demand for hardcopies.
To conclude, there might be plethora of benefits of accessing such items online, however, demand for physical newspaper and book may continue in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'range in prices' is vague and lacks specific examples or logical depth. The opposing view is mentioned but is underdeveloped, lacking a clear explanation of why some people might prefer physical copies (e.g., tactile experience, lack of eye strain). To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and concrete examples rather than just stating them. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Moving further', and 'In addition to that', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. The final paragraph is very short and lacks a strong concluding statement that summarizes the main points effectively. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a more balanced structure between paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'integral part', 'physical copies', and 'digital version'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'in less price' (should be 'at a lower price') and 'to some extend' (should be 'to some extent'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express your ideas more fluently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'technology had developed so further' (should be 'has developed so far'), 'nobody in future' (missing articles), and 'there might be individual' (should be plural 'individuals'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence construction occasionally feels awkward. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate more consistent control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips, particularly with articles, pluralization, and verb tense consistency.
