IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is true that nowadays people are becoming dependent on internet, therefore, some people claim that, in the future nobody will buy printed newspaper or books due to using social media and they able to read them from online. I completely agree with the statement.
There are numerous reason why people becoming less interested to buy books or newspaper day by day. First and foremost in this fast-paced world there are many media available, which covered live podcast and provide news regularly. Besides, those online platforms are more reliable than newspaper due to their facilities, because they can published news all over the world. Therefore, newspaper has their own area or a selected location, but online media has no boundary. What is more, nowadays individuals are becoming busy on many purpose, so they have no time to buy a newspaper sometimes. That is why, many people suggest that, online reading is more easy than physical reading.
Additionally, because of modern technology E-book is a great choice for young generation. They may prefer e-book rather than traditional reading. For instance, in the past days, people might carry a book or newspaper for their learning, but in today they can read anything like poem, research, novels, history from their mobile or laptop and they do not need to pay for this reason. In contrast, students can read any necessary article just stuck on a traffic jam.
In conclusion, I personally think that because of modern technology in the future people are more reliable on online learning and of-course they will get a chance to know about the whole world on a easy way.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the shift toward online media. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument that online media is 'more reliable' than newspapers is asserted but not sufficiently supported with concrete reasoning. Additionally, the claim that people will read everything 'without paying' is not fully explored or challenged, which is a key part of the prompt. While the response covers the main points, the arguments lack the depth and nuance required for a higher band score. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Besides', 'Additionally', and 'In contrast' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'because of modern technology in the future people are more reliable on online learning'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between some sentences feels a bit disjointed due to grammatical inaccuracies that disrupt the logical connection between thoughts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'people are more reliable on online learning' (should be 'reliant') and 'online reading is more easy' (should be 'easier'). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'fast-paced world' and 'online platforms', but the range remains limited. To improve, the student should focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people becoming less interested', 'newspaper has their own area'), incorrect verb forms ('they can published news'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to verb tenses and sentence structure variety is needed.
