IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Online learning would replace buying books and resources in the future and people will no longer feel the need to buy books, magazines and newspapers. This is because popularity and advancement of social media would take over everything in the next generation as everything will be easily available online and would be free of cost. I agree to this statement as Individuals would prefer easy accessibility over buying books and getting things free of cost making things affordable for everyone.
People prefer reading books and news on the websites as they are easily accessible and just one click away. This is because today's generation choose comfort over anything. In the past, reading books and printed newspapers were the preferences of our older generation. Due to the advancement of social media, and fast internet service in today's generation, from novels to news, everything can be downloaded in seconds. A wide variety of books, for example, E-apps, famous novels, news websites are available and would be utilized by almost every individual. Although, schoolbooks and books related to the curriculum would definitely exist, the growing demand for online apps would still be preferred.
All the resources will be free of cost on the internet and will make things affordable for every class. Especially, university-going students, have quite a lot of expenses to cover regarding their fees, books, and their accommodation. If all those books won't be available online, they would have to pay a considerable amount to meet their needs. Students preparing for entry tests or international students preparing for English proficiency test, for instance, have to pay a lot to academies. But most of the material including practice tests books and guidelines are obtainable online, making things convenient for students and their families.
To conclude, I agree that the future generation would not invest much in printed books and materials as they would be able to avail everything on the internet and that too without spending money. Hence, Internet would replace classic books in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have presented relevant arguments regarding accessibility and affordability. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the focus on 'free of cost' and 'accessibility' appears in every paragraph. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the counter-arguments or provide more nuanced analysis, such as the role of tactile experience in reading or the digital divide, rather than focusing solely on cost. The conclusion effectively restates your position, but the overall depth of the argument remains at a mid-level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'This is because', 'For example', and 'To conclude', which help the flow. However, some transitions feel mechanical or repetitive. For example, the phrase 'This is because' is used at the start of both the first and second paragraphs. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') is more precise would enhance the overall cohesion of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'curriculum', 'accessibility', and 'proficiency test'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic words like 'books', 'online', and 'free of cost'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations. For instance, instead of 'get things free', you could use 'obtain materials at no cost' or 'access digital content without financial burden'. There are no significant spelling errors, but the vocabulary lacks the precision required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'Individuals would prefer easy accessibility over buying books and getting things free of cost making things affordable' is a run-on sentence that lacks proper punctuation. Additionally, there are minor errors such as 'everything can be downloaded in seconds' (passive voice is fine, but the preceding list is slightly awkward) and 'If all those books won't be available' (should be 'were not'). Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement would help improve your score.
