In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people are shifting towards the online method. In future no one will buy any printed newspaper or books for reading, they can easily read everything online without paying. i am partially agree with this, further we will discuss in essay.

On the one hand , people are moving towards the online process. Individuals are using cell phones for every purpose, if they want to read any book or newspaper, they will get it easily on internet for free. Moreover, it is good to some extent but it also affect the individual life. Online reading has several advantages. Firstly, digital content is often free or considerably cheaper than printed material. People can easily access the the e-book online and newspaper also for free. However, individual do not have to wait for the latest update to print they can easily access it online.

On the other hand, it is unlikely printed newspaper or books disappear completely. A lot of people like to read books or newspaper printed. Some of them are passionate about collecting books they want. Many people still prefer reading physical books they find it more comfortable and less distracting than electronic devices. In addition printed books do not require any batteries or internet to access and can be kept for many years.

In conclusion, i agree that the popularity of printed newspaper and books will probably decline as online content become more accessible and convenient. However, I disagree with the idea that they will completely disappear, as many people will continue to value the experience of printed materials.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the popularity of printed materials will decline but they will not disappear entirely. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the convenience of digital content versus the tactile experience and reliability of physical books. However, the development is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more depth or specific examples, such as the impact of digital accessibility on the publishing industry or the environmental implications of paper versus digital media. The introduction is a bit informal and could be more sophisticated in its framing of the issue.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the benefits of digital content and the drawbacks of physical books could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more fluid rather than just listing points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'digital content', 'e-book', and 'physical books'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'online process' instead of 'digital transition' or 'individual life' instead of 'daily lives'. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and less common vocabulary to demonstrate a more flexible range of expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'i am partially agree' (should be 'I partially agree'), 'individual do not have to wait' (should be 'individuals do not have to wait'), and 'as online content become' (should be 'becomes'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed accurately. Proofreading for these small errors will significantly improve your score.
