IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Unanimously, in the period of modernity and technology many people are reading books online without paying. This has been the prominent topic of discussion amongst people
Well, in my opinion ,i strongly disagree with this given notion and the supporting towards my view will be discussed in further paragraphs with suitable conclusion .
Firstly, supporting my disagreement to the given statement ,I firmly have a belief that no matter how far the technology goes nothing can beat reading printed books or newspaper. Unlike digital devices, books do not cause distractions such as notifications, advertisements or social media. Additionally ,another aspect which propels my view is some readers find it easier to concentrate when reading a physical copy. Printed books are also commonly purchased as gifts or kept in personal libraries, which makes them more than just a source of information. It is unlikely that digital books will completely replace their printed counterparts. For instance, popular novels such as Harry Potter are still purchased in physical copies by readers and collectors, despite being available digitally.
Secondly, another supporting aspect against this statement is, there is no paradox that , printed newspapers can also continue to have a place in society. Although online news is convenient and accessible, some people still prefer established newspapers because they consider them more reliable and professionally edited. In addition, not everyone has constant access to a stable internet connection or a suitable digital device. Older people, in particular, may feel more comfortable with traditional newspapers. Consequently, printed newspapers may become less common, but they are unlikely to disappear entirely.
In conclusion, I pen down highlighting that the aforementioned given pointers heavily support my sense of belief regarding people buying printed newspapers or books which are worthy enough to strongly support my viewpoint. To make it more effective a joint effort is needed by the citizens..

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a disagreement with the idea that printed media will disappear. The position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of digital distractions and the reliability of traditional news, though some points, like the mention of 'joint effort by the citizens' in the conclusion, are vague and not fully developed. The essay provides sufficient support for the arguments, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, but could benefit from more nuanced exploration of the 'without paying' aspect of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', and 'Consequently', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, although the opening sentence 'Unanimously, in the period of modernity...' is somewhat awkward and does not flow naturally into the rest of the introduction. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'prominent topic', 'paradox', and 'counterparts'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing or word choice, such as 'pen down highlighting' and 'supporting towards my view'. While these do not impede communication, they limit the score. The range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I firmly have a belief that' (wordy/unnatural), 'there is no paradox that , printed newspapers' (punctuation error), and 'the aforementioned given pointers' (redundant). While the meaning is always clear and the errors do not impede communication, the control over complex structures is inconsistent. The punctuation is generally functional, but the misuse of commas and the occasional awkward phrasing prevent a higher score.
