IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Newspaper plays a crucial role in modern society and has contributed to significant developments in many areas of life. Some people believe that the main purpose of newspaper should be to improve people’s lives. I strongly agree with this view because newspapers research can improve healthcare, make everyday life easier and help solve major environmental problems.
Firstly, one of the most important purposes of reading newspapers is to improve human health and increase life expectancy. Newspaper articles such as Science concepts research has led to the development of effective medicines, vaccines and advanced medical equipment. For example, news related scientists have developed treatments for many serious diseases and technologies that allow doctors to diagnose illnesses at an early stage. As a result, people can receive better treatment and enjoy longer and healthier lives. Therefore, improving healthcare should remain a major goal of scientific research.
Secondly, newspapers can make everyday life more convenient and help address environmental challenges. Advances in technology have provided people with efficient transportation, better communication systems and household appliances that save time and effort. At the same time, scientific research is being used to develop renewable energy sources and reduce pollution. For instance, solar and wind power can help countries reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and protect the environment for future generations.
However, online news is not always directly focused on improving people’s lives. Some scientific research is conducted simply to increase human knowledge and understand the natural world. For example, research into space, distant planets and the origins of the universe may not provide immediate practical benefits. Nevertheless, such research can eventually lead to unexpected technological discoveries and a better understanding of our world.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that the most important aim of printed newspaper should be to improve people’s lives. Although scientific research can also be conducted to expand human knowledge, its greatest value is achieved when discoveries contribute to better health, greater convenience and a more sustainable future.
