IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable that technology has spread its wings all over the world. In this regards, it is believed that in future use of printed newspapers or books will decline due to availability of this material online in free is increasing day by day. I agree to a large extent with this notion due to many reasons which will be mentioned in forthcoming fragments with a logical conclusion.

To commence with, there are several positive outcomes of accessing the study material online. The prime one is that, can be a convenient way. To explain it, while having availability of study material online in our mobile can help people as they can get information at any time and anywhere and also at zero costing in many cases. However, it also keeps people up to date with latest news in very less period of time. For instance, on newspapers usually there is a delay of one day but same news we get earlier in mobiles. Secondly, it is much environment friendly. To elaborate it, people know that books are made by printing ink on papers and papers are made from wood. So by getting information online instead of books or newspaper will help people a lot to improve environment as one know that more trees and less polluted environment. For example, a survey conducted states that a larger amount of trees are cut down only for production of paper. As a result, people can also stop the environmental damage from ink.

Nevertheless, despite of usage of online platforms book and newspapers will also not be fully disappeared. First and foremost is, some people is interested in reading books. To write more, many people are emotionally connected with books and prefer to read books because they get good understanding and a clear view about topic. Another striking, no need of light or batteries and can used in any conditions. To clarify it, there is no internet connection and battery required for reading books. One can get information even if it is worse situation. To site an example, one can read a book and get information when sometimes internet connections are shut down due war or any another problem. As a result, people cannot fully dependent on internet.

To conclude, there are several points in favour of former point of view such as it is a convenient way , it is environment friendly yet some points in favour later point can never be neglected at any cost.

There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'forthcoming fragments' and 'striking', though some word choices are slightly unnatural or misused, such as 'zero costing' instead of 'free of charge' or 'at no cost'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'in very less period of time' instead of 'in a much shorter period of time'. While the range is sufficient, more precision and natural collocation would be needed for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the environment'), subject-verb agreement ('some people is interested'), and preposition usage ('despite of').
