IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the future, nobody will purchase printed books or newspapers, as it will enable individuals to read whatever that interests them online for free. I completely agree with this view, due to the advancement in technology, there will be adequate free e-books available online for people use.
One of the major reasons why i agree with this statement is that people love convenience and accessiblility. Digital books allows individuals to read free materials online at their convenience. As a result, they can access free journals, textbooks and articles on their smartphones irrespective of their locations instead of buying printed textbooks or articles that requires one to be at a restricted place. For instance, many students prefer to study digital books on the laptops, as it more convenience.
Furthermore, printed books and articles are more expensive and not everyone can afford to buy them. Hence, individuals prefer to download free softcopy materials on the internet. In the future, more individuals will prefer to read free books and newspaper online, as it is cost effective and will allow them to spend their income on other needs such as clothing and shelter. To illustrate, many individuals claim that since they stopped buying printed books they can now conveniently pay their other bills such as electricity and water bills.
In conclusion, I firmly agree that nobody will buy printed books in the future, due to the advancement in digital technology more e-books are now available for individuals to acquire knowledge. Also, it will allow individuals to allocate their financial resources to cater for their other basic needs.
