Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the current era many people think that anyone will not buy printed newspaper or books since they will be able to read everything on internet without paying any charges. I partially agree with this viewpoint because nowadays technology is developing, they can read newspapers or books on internet.
On the one hand, numerous individuals believe that internet provides quick news compered to newspaper. This is because whenever an accident occurs online media immediately upload news on their website. As a result, this is time saving method and people do not to wait physical newspapers. Furthermore, digital news and books are flexible way because people can easily read news on internet at anytime. To illustrate, if people travel to outside and they want to read newspaper, but unfortunately they do not have newspaper. At that time they can read news on social media. As a consequence, they do not need to carrying books and newspaper from their home.
On the other hand, individuals will only read news on internet. Many newspaper company will close. Because newspaper companies faces significant losses. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the shift toward online media and the potential decline of printed materials. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you state a partial agreement, the arguments regarding the economic impact on companies and the issue of fake news are underdeveloped. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation or a more specific example to support your claims, ensuring the position remains clear throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'Consequently'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as starting a sentence with 'Because' to explain a previous point. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence connects naturally to the one before it.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your ideas clearly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'digital addition' instead of 'digital media' or 'trust on fake news' instead of 'trust fake news'. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'compered' instead of 'compared'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and pay closer attention to common collocations in English.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('the internet'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Because newspaper companies faces significant losses'). Some sentences are also missing necessary words, such as 'people do not to wait physical newspapers'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors will help improve your score.
