IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is argued that nobody will buy printed newspapers or books in future due to the fact that everything they want to read will be available in online without payment. I agree with this statement. From my perspective, it is unrealistic to assume that people will buy newspaper if they have a free and portable means of getting the same information in that newspaper.
To begin with, I believe the nobody will buy printed newspaper if they have a free alternative. This is because people read newspaper due to its reliability and affordability but in the coming future online media will be far more reliable and provide same information without any cost. Lets take example of ChatGPT as it was the future of AI everybody used its paid model to not be left out even I used it but when DeepSeek enter the market with a free version providing the same features in paid version of ChatGPT they left it in dark and the future of newspaper is also like ChatGPT and it will be overshadow by online platform.
In addition to this, I also think that online platform will provide information much faster than newspaper ever

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 197 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the arguments are under-developed. The comparison to ChatGPT and DeepSeek is an interesting attempt to support your view, but it lacks the necessary depth and formal academic tone required for a Task 2 essay. To improve, you must ensure you fully develop your points with sufficient explanation and examples, and ensure the essay is completed in full.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some basic organization with an introduction and body paragraphs. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'In addition to this', but the overall flow is interrupted by the abrupt ending. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is unfinished, which negatively affects the logical structure of the response. To improve, focus on completing your thoughts and using a wider variety of linking words to connect your arguments more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication expected at higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'reliability', 'affordability', and 'overshadow', but there are also instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'left it in dark'. The range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler vocabulary. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid informal expressions or conversational phrasing in your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'nobody will buy printed newspaper' (missing article), 'in the coming future' (unnatural collocation), and 'when DeepSeek enter the market' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the sentence structure is sometimes repetitive. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focus on proofreading for basic errors like articles, plurals, and verb tenses.
