IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate regarding importance of online newspapers or books. A group of people believe that in the future modern era people can stop buying printed newspaper or books this is because they can get everything online and even free of cost. I largely agree to this statement. My opinion is elaborated further with reasons and examples.
Looking at the brighter side, switching towards E-books and E-newspaper is a benefit in term of finance . This is largely because online newspapers and books are free of cost there is no need to pay for it so people can save their money and it is available at any time any place in just one click. Moreover people will choose E-books because the cost of printed books are very high which is not worthy sometimes to afford by lower class family. As a result this will helpful for student who cannot buy expensive books. For example In India large number of students has switched toward E-books.
Another advantage of E-books and E-newspapers is that they are Eco- friendly. This is because in online there is no involvement of papers which is also helpful for environments as well as for individuals as they do not need to carry books or paper everywhere. As less numbers of tree will cut in future because requirement for paper will reduced which is good thing for environment. As a result there is high chances that deforestation will reduced by a higher percentage. For example, recently Japan has taken this E-books and E-newspaper initiative.
But there are some drawbacks for people who live in rural area this is largely because they don't have sufficient network to get switch towards E-books or E-newspapers. If Government will take a sufficient initiative this problem can solve by providing them good quality network.
In conclusion, I largely agree to this statement that people will switch to online because this will help financially and also it is eco-friendly. There are some drawbacks but can be solved if proper initiative is taken by government.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, expressing a clear position in favor of the shift to digital media. The ideas are relevant, focusing on financial benefits and environmental impact. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the points about cost and deforestation are clear, the supporting examples (e.g., 'In India large number of students') are generalized and lack specific detail. The counter-argument regarding rural connectivity is introduced but not fully integrated into the overall argument, as it remains somewhat isolated from the main thesis. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more specific, well-explained evidence rather than broad generalizations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Looking at the brighter side,' 'Moreover,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. There are also instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the second paragraph where the transition from financial benefits to the needs of lower-class families could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'deforestation,' 'eco-friendly,' and 'initiative.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'not worthy sometimes to afford' instead of 'unaffordable' or 'not cost-effective.' Additionally, the repetition of phrases like 'E-books and E-newspapers' suggests a limited range of synonyms. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic collocations and varying their vocabulary to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('large number of students has switched,' 'cost of printed books are'), missing articles ('in online,' 'in future'), and awkward phrasing ('this problem can solve' instead of 'this problem can be solved'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score to a 5.5 or 6.0 range.
