IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In upcoming years, it is too obvious that people will shift to the digital world really soon, and printed newspapers or books will no longer be purchased. I partially agree with this statement that people will forget to read physical newspapers.
First, digital platforms offer a wide range of access to unlimited content according to their choices. For now, people can easily find out their taste in content. As a result, readers do not need to visit physical stores to buy books and newspapers. Without paying a single penny, they can collect or read any book or content for securing their knowledge and keeping themselves updated with recent news. Consequently, millions of users prefer reading online on smartphones and tablets for their convenience.
On the other hand, I believe that physical books will not disappear completely. Continuous reading on digital screens can cause eye diseases, and many people are not comfortable reading everything digitally. That is why people are still preferring to read physically and enjoy the actual feel of reading. Furthermore, readers want to get the feel of holding a real physical paper for an actual feeling. As a result, physical reading still has a separate fanbase community who still want to read physically without being distracted by the digital world.
In conclusion, online reading has various advantages and significantly reduces the demand for printed items. However, physical books and newspapers will continue to exist for specific readers who still want to read physically and save themselves form cuasing eye infection .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the shift to digital media and the potential disappearance of printed materials. You maintain a clear position throughout, acknowledging the convenience of digital platforms while arguing for the continued relevance of physical books. The ideas are relevant, though some points, such as the claim that all content is available 'without paying a single penny,' are slightly over-generalized, as many digital platforms require subscriptions or purchases. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting arguments are more nuanced and grounded in realistic scenarios rather than absolute statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'First,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Consequently' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between the idea of digital convenience and the physical health concerns in the second paragraph could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though some sentences feel slightly repetitive in their structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'digital platforms,' 'convenience,' and 'fanbase community.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'securing their knowledge' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'cuasing eye infection' (spelling error and awkward phrasing). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary choices are consistently natural. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'In upcoming years, it is too obvious that...' and 'Continuous reading on digital screens can cause eye diseases.' While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, including 'people are still preferring' (should be 'prefer'), 'save themselves form cuasing' (spelling and preposition error), and 'it is too obvious' (which is slightly unnatural). The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for small typos.
