In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many individuals believe that nobody will read printed newspapers or books as they will be able to read everything they want online. I completely agree with this statement because of it's conveniency and trees can be saved by reducing production of papers.

The primary reason for using online medium is, it is very convenient to read newspaper or book anywhere and anytime. At the same time online newspaper provides updates every minute allover the world. The online books can be benefit financially by saving money. For instance, there are many websites on which a person can rent a book by spending minimal amount of money, which cost lesser than buying book. Therefore, using online newspaper and books can ultimately make your life comfortable and saves your space.

The secondary reason of using screen based newspaper and books that, it saves the trees from getting halved. The raw materials for making a single shit of paper needs tree. If the demand of paper production reduced by using online media than it will ultimately can save the trees. Because of that, using online medium is benefit as that can lead to reduction of paper production along with saving trees from getting halved for paper.

In conclusion, the paper based newspaper and books should be stopped and it should be taken place by the online mediums. I strongly agree with this statement as it have benefits, such as it's conveniency of having updates allover the world at anytime and anywhere within a minutes and also the advantage of renting books online, which can save money along with saving space in the house. Moreover, the another reason is it ultimately saves the trees by stopping the production of paper.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding convenience and environmental impact are relevant, though they are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the argument about saving trees is mentioned in both the third paragraph and the conclusion without adding new insights. While the position is clear, the development of ideas is somewhat simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced arguments, perhaps by acknowledging the counter-argument (e.g., the tactile experience of books or the digital divide) before refuting it, which would demonstrate a more sophisticated engagement with the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The primary reason', 'The secondary reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'The secondary reason of using screen based newspaper and books that, it saves...'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'benefit', and 'comfortable'. There are also several word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'conveniency' (convenience), 'getting halved' (being cut down), and 'single shit of paper' (sheet). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more academic vocabulary, such as 'digital accessibility' instead of 'online medium' or 'environmental sustainability' instead of 'saving trees'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it have benefits'), article usage ('the online books'), and awkward phrasing ('if the demand of paper production reduced... than it will ultimately can save'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels forced. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
