IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a prediction that in future nobody will be buy newspapers and printed books as everything will be available on internet to read without paying.

To some extent I agree with this statement, that the evolving technology will have an impact on our reading habit, but on the other hand people love to read through the books will never change their habit.

In this modern era, changing technology has changed a lot of our habits that we used to do in the past. If we look few years back people used to visit library to study, but now the concept of digital libraries has evolved which means that every book will be available on internet. Newspapers are also available on the websites. Research papers can be studied on websites as well.

But, the comfort which one can have while reading from a book can be never gained from online reading. Keeping yourself paused in front of a screen can affect your health. Moreover adults still like to read books and newspapers. Although we have to pay for books but we have a lifetime access to those while if your phone is not charged you cant read. In addition to this many websites ask you to pay to read the details of any article or blog. Reading from a book sharpen your mind as well.

I personally believe that to some of the people will change their habit of reading from books to read on internet while the others will keep to pursue their habit of book reading

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the shift toward digital media and the enduring appeal of physical books. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you present a clear position, some arguments, such as the health impacts of screen time or the cost of digital content, are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with specific examples. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and lacks a strong summary of the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides a deeper analysis of the 'why' and 'how' behind your claims rather than just listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'In addition to this' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit disjointed in places. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next will help improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'digital libraries', 'research papers', and 'evolving technology'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'keep to pursue their habit'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Using a wider variety of synonyms for common words like 'read' or 'books' would also demonstrate a stronger command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several grammatical errors, such as 'nobody will be buy' (should be 'nobody will buy') and 'to some of the people will change' (which is syntactically incorrect). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositions throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall flow. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage will significantly improve your score in this area.
