IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Digital media is becoming increasingly popular nowadays. Some people argue that the sales of printed media will drop as everything would be available online for free. I agree books and newspaper are being digitalized but printed media will also be available.
To begin with, ebooks and digital newspapers are popular because of it convience. Since there is not problem to carrying such media physcially, everyone is preferring digital media over traditional media. For instance, in traditional media case reader would have to carry books or newspapers whereever he goes, but now he can read it on screen using free pdf file without having an actual books. In addition, some books are costly and sometimes rare to find locally but they are available online for free. To illustrate my point, rich dad poor dad, a famous book, is available in digital from everyone can download it in pdf format without paying anything and enjoy reading it.
On the other hand, some argue that although digital media will have some material online but some books will not be available digitally. Eventhough digital newspapers and books are becoming popular, some readers prefer reading through because it allows them to focus more on reading. For example, mobile phones are known for their distractions, when a person starts reading and there are high changes that he get distracted either from a phone call or a notification of an app, due to this problem they recommend printed media over digital media.
In conclusion, diferent fields including media is being digitalized but it will not completely remove the printed media due to discussed reasons.
