Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 130 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited and incomplete. While the student attempts to state a position, the arguments provided are underdeveloped and lack logical connection to the prompt regarding the future of printed media. The essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, indicating a failure to address the task fully. To improve, the student must expand on their arguments with specific examples and ensure the entire prompt is addressed in a structured manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt to use transition words like 'first of all' and 'second of all', the ideas themselves are not logically sequenced or well-connected. The paragraphing is ineffective, and the abrupt ending prevents any sense of overall progression or conclusion. The lack of cohesive devices makes the text difficult to follow, and the relationship between the ideas and the topic is often unclear. Improving paragraph structure and using a wider range of linking words would help create a more coherent flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, often relying on simple words like 'thing' or 'easy'. There are numerous spelling errors, such as 'navols' (novels), 'beliave' (believe), 'tecnology' (technology), and 'robre' (robbery). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the word choice is often inaccurate or inappropriate for an academic essay. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on spelling accuracy and expanding their range of topic-specific vocabulary related to media and technology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement, sentence structure, and punctuation. For example, 'every thing is available' and 'the use the internet' are grammatically incorrect. The sentence structures are simple and often fragmented, lacking the complexity required for higher bands. The frequent errors in basic sentence construction make the text difficult to read. The student should focus on mastering basic sentence patterns, subject-verb agreement, and correct punctuation before attempting more complex structures.
