IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

I completely agree with this statement. Reading newspapers seems to be a crucial thing part of life in some specific areas of the world as they perceive it as an essential source of being connected or updated.

There are may sources which give the confirmation about this. A prominent figures has also shared his opinion. He says that there was a time when millions of individuals used to buy newspapers for the sake of stay tuned with the world happening's as there was no other source to get information at that period. lets say that individuals were not facilitate with major necessities like modern gadgets like Tv, smartphones or they have not Wi-Fi so they have the only option that is to buy them.

In the contrary, the digital world is not entirely dependent on magazines or newspapers as majority have their own gadgets which they were using for multiple purposes especially to provide or to obtain every kind of information. For instance, , these days everyone has their own personal smartphone and every home has smart led tv through them they get connected with the world through numerous channels which are specially designed for providing crucial information like Time News or BBC News . This was the main reason which reduced the chances to buy newspapers. They believe that its a waste of money.

I'm concluding this by saying that i also agree with point that why we need to spend on something when we have all the facilities to get information its not worthy to buy them in a world where technology provide everything on smart tabs or on news channels.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development is limited. While you mention the shift to digital media, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the reference to a 'prominent figure' is vague and does not effectively support your argument. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same idea about gadgets and cost. The conclusion is a bit informal and does not fully synthesize the points made. Focusing on providing specific examples or logical consequences would strengthen the response significantly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical. You use some cohesive devices like 'In the contrary' (which is grammatically incorrect) and 'For instance', but the transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the 'prominent figure' and the rest of the argument is weak. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'crucial thing part of life' and 'stay tuned with the world happening's'. You rely on basic vocabulary like 'things', 'gadgets', and 'facilities'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to media and technology. Additionally, avoid informal contractions like 'I'm' and ensure that word forms are used correctly (e.g., 'facilitate' instead of 'facilitated').

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('A prominent figures has'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures ('they were using for multiple purposes'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and missing apostrophes. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often marred by errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralization.
