IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is frequently argued that printed books and newspapers will eventually become obsolete as people opt to access free online reading materials. I completely disagree with this statement, as the tactile experience of reading physical copies and the demand for verified, high-quality news will ensure their continued survival.
Firstly, physical books offer a unique sensory experience that digital screens simply cannot replicate. Many avid readers derive genuine pleasure from the feel of paper, the smell of ink, and the physical act of turning pages. Furthermore, staring at digital devices for prolonged periods often leads to eye strain and screen fatigue. As a result, people frequently use reading as a deliberate way to disconnect from technology. The enduring presence of physical bookstores and the culture of collecting paperbacks clearly demonstrate that a significant portion of the population still values traditional formats over free digital files.
Secondly, regarding newspapers, printed media is often associated with a higher level of credibility and journalistic integrity. While the internet is undeniably flooded with free information, it is also rife with misinformation, clickbait, and unverified rumors. Readers who value accurate, well-researched, and in-depth reporting are consistently willing to pay for reputable print publications. Additionally, a substantial demographic maintains a deep-rooted daily habit of reading a morning paper over breakfast—a cultural routine that is highly unlikely to vanish entirely.
In conclusion, although free digital content is widely accessible and convenient, I strongly disagree that it will completely eradicate the market for printed reading materials. The irreplaceable appeal of physical books and the trustworthiness of established print journalism guarantee that these traditional mediums will retain a dedicated, paying audience well into the future.
