IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is believed that in the coming years, there will not be a single person buying printed newspapers or books as they will be able to read anything from online sources. I strongly agree with this prediction and the reasons and opinion will be given in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, in the future we will see a significant shift of consuming information from newspapers and books towards reading them using internet. This is because the social media is already a greatest source of information and news itself. For instance, platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram reveal the latest news and is a major source of current affairs recently. Moreover, online articles get published time to time which results to people being less dependent on physical newspapers and use their phones instead. In addition, there are various websites that provide pdfs including wide range of books. This leads to people not buying books because they are already getting the same content for free. As a result, it is totally safe to say that we will see a total shift towards reading news online in the coming years.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that nobody will be buying newspapers or books in the near future as online media will become the only source of information. Firstly, everyone will have a touch screen mobile phone where everything is accessible for free. For example, news are updated on websites and latest issues are shown on social media platforms. Furthermore, people will feel that reading books on phone or laptop is far more convenient because it not only provides free access to the content, but also the book stores will become so less that people will lean more towards reading them online.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that the future will include people who read everything they want on the internet. As we already see a downward trend in sales of newspapers and book stores having lesser customers. In contrast, the number of users on social media consuming news and the amount of people downloading and reading books online will eventually skyrocket to an extent that leads to zero physical newspaper or book readers.

Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'in the coming years' is used in both the introduction and the body, which limits the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a central topic, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significant shift', 'current affairs', and 'skyrocket'.
