IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that the use of technology is significant in today's world. Because of this, an array of masses opine that printing of newspapers and books will be disappeared in the upcoming years .I partially see eye to eye with this notion which I will discuss in my upcoming paragraphs.
To commence with it, there are some reasons why printed newspapers and books will declined in the future. The first and foremost reason is availability. To be more precise, the advancement of technology which provide enormous information about daily trends and other resources where people easily read anything from anywhere without kept printed books with them . A survey which was conducted by The British Broadcasting corporation revealed that 79% individual's read information from digital items such as mobile phones, computers because of its accessibility.
On the other hand, the number of reasons are there why printed newspapers or books will not vanished in the future. The first reason is interest of people. To clarify it, there are many people who have interest to read novels, newspapers in printed way because they wanted to improve their reading skills they also think that books reading provide them best knowledge about anything. For example, a person who read daily from printed books they can make notes on books and highlight that words on it. An article by The English Times showed 8 out of 10 people preferers to read information from printed books and newspapers.
To conclude, although there are many benefits of this trend but its negative side cannot be neglected. If people maintained balance between them then it will be proven beneficial not only for one but also for the whole society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by providing a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments. You discuss both the shift toward digital media and the enduring value of printed materials. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'interest of people' is a bit repetitive and could be strengthened by discussing specific contexts like academic research or the tactile experience of reading. While your position is clear, the conclusion is slightly vague, as it mentions a 'negative side' without explicitly linking it back to the prompt's core question about the future of printed media.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
Your essay follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'this trend' and 'them' are used without a precise antecedent. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to previously mentioned nouns will help improve your coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, though there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'an array of masses opine' is unnatural, and 'will be disappeared' is grammatically incorrect (should be 'will disappear'). You also use 'preferers' instead of 'prefer'. While you successfully use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'accessibility' and 'digital items', the overall control of vocabulary is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'technology which provide'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'will declined', 'will not vanished'), and prepositional errors (e.g., 'without kept printed books'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around periods and commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the clarity of your writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and verb tense consistency will significantly improve your score.
