Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the future of printed media versus online content. However, the position is not fully developed or consistently maintained. While you mention you 'partially agree', the arguments provided are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about newspapers being 'wastage of money' and 'cutting trees' is relevant but not fully explored in relation to the 'without paying' aspect of the prompt. The ideas are present but often lack the necessary supporting evidence or logical extension required for a higher band. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the prompt and provides clear, logical reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow is often hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of effective cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are frequently mechanical or missing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. For example, the transition 'Turing to the point' is misused, and the connection between the environmental impact of paper and the cost of newspapers is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') would help create a smoother, more coherent argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. You rely on basic terms like 'great choice', 'very helpful', and 'good'. There are also frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the offline newspapers comes in home' instead of 'delivered to homes' and 'the news who printed' instead of 'the news that is printed'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to media, technology, and digital consumption, and focus on using words in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many individuals are not read online'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'the news who printed in newspaper the old one'. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are often inaccurate, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of relative clauses ('who' vs 'which' vs 'that') to connect ideas more accurately.
