IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

In today's digital age, people can access a wide range of written content online without paying for physical copies. I completely agree that reading books, newspapers and journals online is more beneficial than purchasing printed versions because it is convenient, affordable and environmentally friendly.

One major advantage of digital publications is their portability. People can store hundreds of books, newspapers and journals on a single electronic device, which makes reading much more convenient, especially when travelling. For example, a person who travels frequently may have limited luggage space and may not be able to carry several physical books. In contrast, a tablet or smartphone can contain numerous books without adding significant weight to their luggage. Therefore, digital reading is a practical option for people who travel regularly.

Another important benefit is that online content can help people save money. Many books, newspapers and other written materials are available free of charge or at a much lower price than physical copies. In addition, people can download these materials onto their devices and access them whenever they want. This means that they do not have to spend money repeatedly on printed publications. Digital reading also benefits the environment because it reduces the demand for paper. Since producing paper requires trees to be cut down, reducing paper consumption can help protect forests and reduce waste.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that accessing written content online is a better option than purchasing physical copies. The convenience of carrying numerous books on a single device, the opportunity to save money and the positive impact on the environment are the main reasons why digital reading is becoming increasingly popular.
