IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
I , partially agree with the fact that in the future printed newspapers or books would be bought by nobody because of its availability on internet for free. But there are several reasons supporting these fact, and many other reasons in contrast with this fact.
Internet has become source of literally everything, every small thing are available on internet which includes printed books and newspaper also. It is easily accessible so people nowadays, find it easier to extract this kinds of stuffs on internet . Reading newspaper of any region , country, city , etc have now become possible through internet . Some books are worth to read but are equally expensive . Availability of these books for free will help people to not spend their money on expensive books . They will not have to carry newspaper or books with them everytime , everywhere .
But there are several reasons in contrast with these fact too . Companies and authors works very hard for printing latest news or to collect it and authors to writer those books and to publish it. They make profits by selling them . If in future everybody will stop buying newspaper and books they will unable to make profits. If someone does not have any mobile or internet access they will not be able to read it also. Reading books or newspapers on the screen affects our eyesight, it can cause headache.
In my opinion , people will not completely stop buying newspaper or books in future . Although majority of them will read it online but some prefer to read it offline.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about authors needing to make profits is a strong argument, but it is explained in very simple terms. The essay would benefit from more detailed examples or a deeper exploration of the economic impact on the publishing industry. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion is brief but effectively summarizes the writer's stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a basic progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'But there are several reasons' are used to transition between paragraphs, which is functional but lacks variety. Additionally, some sentences feel disjointed, and the referencing (e.g., 'these fact') is occasionally imprecise. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic terms such as 'stuff', 'things', and 'good'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'extract this kinds of stuffs' and 'writer those books'. While the meaning is always clear, the lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary limits the score. To improve, you should focus on using more precise collocations and academic terminology related to the topic of digital media and publishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every small thing are available'), article usage, and pluralization (e.g., 'this kinds of stuffs'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the writer attempts complex sentences, they are often marred by these persistent errors. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining the use of articles and plurals would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
