IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that printed newspapers and books will disappear entirely in the future because of a new inventions. Many individuals uses smart technology to read and write. But I believe that newspapers and books will not be vanish.

To begin with, there is undeniable truth to the claim that online reading is becoming dominant. Websites and applications now offers news and books for free of cost. People who are educated more likely to read online. Moreover, younger generations, in particular, have grown up with smartphones and tablets, making digital reading second nature. In addition, it is now common that numerous newspapers now put their news online instead of printing it.

However, printed articles and newspapers will probably not disappear. Since many people still tactile to experience of holding a book or a newspaper. They don't prefer to read from digital technology because the notifications from social media causes distractions. Collectors, academics and libraries also values physical copies for preservation and citation purposes. Additionally, not everyone has reliable internet access or the financial stability to purchase digital tools. Consequently, they value libraries.

Furthermore, some people, like students, teachers, and collectors still aims paper nooks for studying or keeping as gifts. So yes I disagree with the contrast that books should disappear entirely because people like me still aims to read through books instead of smartphones.

In the final analysis, I believe online reading will undoubtedly continue to grow and may become the primary format for most people, I disagree that printed newspapers and books will disappear entirely. They are more likely to persist as a smaller, specialised market rather than vanish altogether.
