IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In the future electronics devices and social network is in trending which brings everyone to lost interest in reading on through a paper. I agree against on favour that newspapers or books will be not bought by anyone as stated in the statement.
The current century is mostly based on online portals and devices rather than on books and newspapers. From the age of toddlers to old, people prefers online platforms for most information.
The age of toddlers to teen the interests in books has vanished due to the sudden popularity of advance technology and convenience to do school work. The schools are now teaching students through digital boards. The university and colleges are also more fund of teaching through digital rather than traditional way.
Even news and information are found within a minute of time. The interest of reading through books and printed newspaper are now least enjoyed by people due to the fact that the information can be provide through online.
Later in the future more and more people will be fond in online according to my perspective. The development of advance technology will take place and can easily replace the traditional way of reading through books and newspaper.
Lots of people will rely on online platforms for the day to day information which can eventually cause the libraries to shut down or to decrease each decade.
Over ally, in my perspective less and less people would publish books and newspapers and the readers will also lost interest in reading.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the shift toward digital media. However, the position is somewhat contradictory; the introduction states 'I agree against on favour', which is confusing. While the essay covers the topic, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about schools using digital boards is relevant but not fully developed to support the broader claim about books and newspapers. The conclusion is also slightly repetitive, restating the main point without adding a final synthesis. To improve, you should ensure your stance is clearly articulated and provide more specific, nuanced examples to support your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often mechanical. There is a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices; the essay relies on simple transitions or lacks them entirely between sentences. For example, the transition between the discussion of toddlers and the general statement about technology is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, making the flow feel repetitive. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') would significantly improve the logical flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'is in trending', 'lost interest in reading on through a paper', and 'more fund of teaching'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. While you attempt to use topic-related vocabulary like 'digital boards' and 'online platforms', the range is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility. To reach a higher band, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on basic, sometimes incorrectly used, expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('people prefers', 'readers will also lost interest'), incorrect verb forms ('information can be provide'), and awkward sentence structures ('I agree against on favour'). There is a limited range of complex structures, and most sentences are simple or contain errors when complexity is attempted. Punctuation is generally functional, but the grammatical inaccuracies are persistent throughout the text. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a great first step toward improvement.
