IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people think that in the future nobody will buy printed newspaper or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. I partially agree with this view because online source provides greater convinence and instant updates, but at the same time due to online source people may loss reading habit from the books and may increase the risk of eye problems.
On the one hand, online sources provide greater convinence. This is because news on online apps or websites are accessible 24 hours. For example, if a person has a busy schedule during the day, they may use an app to read news at night without carrying a physical newspaper. As a result, online sources are more convinent than physical newspapers. Additionally, online broadcasts provide instant updates about the news. The newspapers get updated on daily basis, while online sources get updated within few hours. For instance, if a disaster occurs in a particular state, people may get updates of it on the following day through newspaper. However, an online source helps to spread these news within few hours. In addition, online sources can be beneficial for those with a lower salary. If an individual cannot afford to buy newspapers or books, they can simply read everything from the websites or apps without paying for them, just with the help of an internet.
On the other hand, there are certain drawbacks to consider. Firstly, people may loss their physical book reading habit by relying only on online sources. Younger generations may not develop the book reading habit and require a mobile phone or laptop to do their studies. The children may sometime misuse these device by playing games or wasting time on the unproductive things. Secondly, reading from screen can be dangerous for eyes. Screen of electronic devices release the huge amount of danger rays, which can become a threat for eyes. For example, if an individual frequently uses electronic device to read news may increase the chance of getting specs at a younger age.
In conclusion, i partially agree that in the future nobody will buy printed newspaper or books because of online source. Although, online sources provide better convinenece and instant updates, it also creates challenges such as loss of reading habit from physical books and affect the eyes. A balanced approach works best where online source should continue to grow, while physical newspaper and books should exist alongside.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that balances the benefits of online media with the drawbacks of moving away from physical formats. Your ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the discussion on convenience and the potential health impacts of screen time. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended; for instance, the point about 'lower salary' could be more deeply explored by discussing the broader economic implications of free information versus the publishing industry's sustainability. Overall, your response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Additionally,' and 'Firstly' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of online sources and the drawbacks could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a clear central topic, which helps maintain the coherence of your argument throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'instant updates,' 'unproductive,' and 'balanced approach.' However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'convinence' (convenience) and 'convinent' (convenient), which occur repeatedly. Additionally, there are some word choice issues, such as 'loss reading habit' instead of 'lose the habit of reading' and 'danger rays' instead of 'harmful radiation.' While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on accurate spelling and more precise collocations will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'newspapers get updated on daily basis' should be 'on a daily basis') and article usage errors (e.g., 'with the help of an internet'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the children may sometime misuse these device,' where pluralization is inconsistent. While these errors rarely impede meaning, they are frequent enough to limit your score. Increasing your control over articles and plural forms will help you achieve a higher band.
