Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the future of printed media versus online content. However, the position is somewhat inconsistent; while you agree that people read online, you also argue for the benefits of printed media without clearly stating the extent of your agreement. The ideas are present but remain under-developed. For example, the mention of the Nepal flood is a relevant real-world example, but it is not clearly linked to the argument about whether printed media will disappear. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly supports your overall stance on whether printed media will become obsolete.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'For insurance' (likely meant 'For instance') and 'whlie mobile phones'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult to follow the logical flow of your argument. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'they' and 'it', which do not always have a clear antecedent. Using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'nevertheless') would help improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'mobile phones', 'news', and 'good/bad'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'mobile as lacks of information' and 'rapidly came out news'. These errors sometimes impede the reader's understanding of your intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to media and technology, such as 'digital platforms', 'information accessibility', or 'tangible media', and ensure you are using words in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Someone say', 'newspaper are taken'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read at times. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
