IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In contemporary society, online technology has become an integral part of modern society, while a segment of people claim that printed books and newspapers will have a downfall in the future; others strongly oppose this notion. From my viewpoint, I firmly agree with the given notion as it offers a multitude of significant advantages.
To commence with, the compelling reason for supporting this statement is that technology is revolving around the world. Printed magazines and books will be replaced by a digital advancement. People can easily access it easily on soft copies. It will save people money as well as time because they spent a long time going out to purchase the books and spent a fortune on it. For example, momentous books, which are rarely available in markets, and shopkeepers charged a heavy amount along with taxes for a high professional books, so they can easily get on social websites and can download them in PDF form in their comfort zone, without any payments. Hence, this makes people more attractive because it is a budget-friendly environment.
Another noteworthy justification is that newspapers, which publish their articles on the next day, but people have already read about the ongoing situations of the world without any subscriptions. Because it is circulating on social media on the same day, before it is being printed and providing hard copy to individuals. For instance, news about the bomb blast or any other relevant information that has currently happened—people already knew about it, and save their amount on spending on printed articles.
To sum up, technological advancement has become increasingly prevalent in modern community that in the future, the whole world will be fully dependent on these innovations, as it will replace everything in a more efficient way and make people's lives easier.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the shift toward online media. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention cost and convenience, the arguments lack depth and nuance. For instance, the claim that all information is available for free online is a significant over-generalization, as many high-quality news outlets and academic publishers use paywalls. To reach a higher band, you should provide more balanced, well-reasoned arguments that acknowledge the complexity of the topic rather than relying on broad, absolute statements. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To commence with' and 'Another noteworthy justification,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Hence, this makes people more attractive,' which does not logically follow from the previous sentence about budget-friendliness. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, in the second paragraph, the pronoun 'it' is used repeatedly without a clear antecedent, making the flow of information slightly disjointed. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. You rely on some repetitive or imprecise phrasing, such as 'spent a fortune' and 'heavy amount.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'revolving around the world' (which is used incorrectly here) and 'modern community' (where 'society' would be more appropriate). To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to digital media and publishing. Avoid using informal or vague language to ensure your arguments sound more professional and authoritative.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'newspapers, which publish their articles on the next day, but people have already read...' is a sentence fragment that lacks a main verb. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'shopkeepers charged' and 'people already knew.' Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure needs more variety and better control to avoid these recurring errors. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical slips will help improve your score.
