IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

With the rise of internet and advancement of technology, some people believe that printed newspaper and books will disappear because online content is free. I agree that online contents will dominate, but I don't agree that printed sources will eradicate completely.

On the other hand, I agree that the online sources of reading newspaper and different varieties of books are cost-effective. People do not pay for this facility and are much more convenient and cheaper than printed books and newspaper. People can read e-books, newspaper and listening podcasts without paying any money. Furthermore, many modern age people can prefer reading books on their phones and tablets. In this way, people can save their money and they do not have need to go their crowded bookshops. Many younger generation mostly prefer to read some fictions or non-fictions and novels. Many advance sources of novel are accessible to them through the internet. As a result, many young people, are switching to digital formats.

While on the other hand, in rural areas , many older peoples are mostly reliable on the printed newspaper and books. Firstly, many readers are still prefer to holding a physical book and return their pages, which cannot be replicated on screen. Some books are often collected and given as gifts. Printed newspaper and books is the historical tradition of our culture.

To conclude, online sources of reading newspaper and books are cost- effective and convenient due to modern technology and this is a great gift of science. However, printed newspaper and books will not vanish completely. They would have a preference in this technical era and selling like hot cakes in the future.
