Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the future of printed media versus online content. However, the development is inconsistent. While you state a position, some arguments are under-developed or contradictory, such as the claim that people will move to digital goods while simultaneously using 'back dated goods like printed books'. The conclusion is somewhat repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, clear idea that directly supports your overall stance, and avoid contradictory statements that confuse the reader regarding your actual opinion on the future of printed media.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression between and within them is often weak. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently mechanical or misused, such as the abrupt transition 'As well as picking up books...' or the confusing use of 'however' when discussing free online content. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow of ideas is interrupted by frequent grammatical errors. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally to link sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'peoples' instead of 'people', 'teachnology' instead of 'technology', 'magagines' instead of 'magazines', and 'teedious' instead of 'tedious'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally make it difficult for the reader to follow the intended meaning. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use less common items accurately. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and practice using synonyms to avoid repeating words like 'books' or 'online' throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('world becoming', 'technology play a crucial rules'), incorrect pluralization ('peoples', 'novels'), and awkward sentence structures. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, which impacts the clarity of your message. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
