Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern world, some individuals believe that hard copy books and multimedia will be discarded and no one can purchase it in the long term and they can read these books online without paying a single penny using the technology of torrent and VPN. This can cause several problems for writers such as financials issues and credits. This essay will discuss agree aspect and state my opinion why I support this view.

To commence, one of the main reason is that why i believe is that it can harm their dignity, value and morals of the writers. In other words, the authors publish their news and books for public to pay and read the best and the latest news but some middle man transcript the news and books and publish online in multiple websites for free. This is because it can create traffic for their websites and ad companies can pay huge amount of money for play their ads on their websites. As a result, it may harm in the long term.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt, but the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. You identify the issue of copyright infringement and financial loss for authors, which is relevant. However, the argument remains focused on the negative consequences of piracy rather than fully exploring the extent to which printed media will disappear. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments are not fully extended. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-developed point that directly answers the 'to what extent' aspect of the prompt, rather than focusing solely on the mechanics of piracy.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'this is because' and 'moreover'. Some transitions feel forced, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing. For example, the transition between the discussion of piracy and the mention of 'user safety' in the third paragraph is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'copyright', 'financial issues', and 'data privacy', but there is a reliance on basic phrasing. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'causes which was made by' and 'transcript the news', which sound unnatural. To improve, focus on learning collocations (words that naturally go together) and using more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repeating basic words like 'books' or 'websites'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'these websites did not pay single penny'), incorrect verb tenses, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'one of the main reason is that why i believe is that'). Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles ('a', 'the') and pluralization, which are currently quite frequent.
