Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is significantly limited. The arguments are repetitive and rely heavily on personal anecdotes rather than a broader analysis of the topic. The essay fails to explore the implications of the shift to digital media beyond the convenience of mobile phones. The conclusion is incomplete, which prevents a full development of the argument. To improve, you should focus on providing more sophisticated reasons, such as the accessibility of information, the environmental impact of paper, or the economic viability of digital publishing, rather than focusing solely on personal phone usage.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses some basic cohesive devices like 'firstly', 'further more', and 'in conclusion', but these are often used incorrectly or in a mechanical way. The paragraphing is present but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with ideas jumping between points without clear logical progression. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that supports the main thesis statement.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying on basic words like 'things', 'buy', and 'money'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'coming up life' and 'EXAMPLENCE'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the misuse of terms often hinders clarity. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary to include more academic and topic-specific terms related to technology, media, and consumer habits, and pay closer attention to how words are used in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and tense usage (e.g., 'when my father only 14 year old', 'we every things read'). Complex sentence structures are largely absent or attempted with high error rates. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with random capitalization and missing commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors in tense and pluralization.
