IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this modern era when, every information is easily available on internet. In future the trend of reading newspaper and books will completely forbidden as, people have all of the news and books in their smartphones. I completely agree with this statement and I will discuss in this essay.
To commence with, day by day people are getting more busy with their professional and personal life. Due to hectic schedules individuals are unable to take out time for reading newspaper and books. However, smartphones or laptops play crucial role to fulfil that need of reading newspaper and books, because people can go through the news and books even when they are commuting to their workplace, and do not need to carry newspaper and books with them.
Another reason for diminishing of newspaper and books in future is that readers can access through lots of content at one platform. For instance, if someone want to know about the news around the city, or internationally, they can effortlessly search on internet and read all the news on one click. Similarly there are almost all books are available on internet in the form of e-book. People can download and keep multiple books in one device. For example, Amazon kindle is perfect example for reading books, it is quit prominent for reading e-books and specifically dedicated for reading only.
In conclusion, in my perspective in future the public will lean toward to the smartphone or laptops to read books and newspapers because of their busy routines. Moreover, there will be more useful tools in future which to allow readers to acquire all reading material at one platform just in one click on internet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the shift toward digital media. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention busy lifestyles and the convenience of digital platforms, the argument could be strengthened by exploring the economic or environmental aspects of the transition. The claim that printed media will be 'completely forbidden' is a strong, absolute statement that is not fully supported by evidence, as physical books still hold cultural and tactile value for many. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more nuanced and provide more detailed explanations for why the transition is inevitable rather than just convenient.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To commence with,' 'For instance,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. For example, the link between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing; for instance, 'that need' in the second paragraph is slightly vague. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hectic schedules,' 'diminishing,' and 'prominent.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'every information is easily available' (should be 'all information is'), 'completely forbidden' (which is contextually incorrect for a trend), and 'access through lots of content' (should be 'access lots of content'). To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical context. Expanding your range to include more precise academic vocabulary would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('on internet' should be 'on the internet'), subject-verb agreement ('if someone want' should be 'if someone wants'), and sentence fragments ('I will discuss in this essay' is incomplete). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas appearing in several places. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
