IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the upcoming days not any single person will spend money on printed news and book because they find more convenient way of reading reading anything on the internet without paying any bills.
In this essay i will clearly explain my thinking to what extend i find reading newspaper convenient and in future if people stop buying newspaper and whats the main reason behind this.
Firstly, i somehow agree with this because the world is day by day moving towards the advancement and prefer using more convenient to find any type of news or any kind of the data from the internet because reading newspaper can take enough time of the individuals while people do not have enough time to spend reading the newspaper they also has to manage their time for all of the other responsibilities. Moreover people also have to pay for buying a newspaper to read the daily news while on the internet they can read and discover any kind of stuff they want freely and its is also a convenient way to explore the whole world by only using your mobile phone. Newspaper has only a few type of information while browsing you are able to search any type of data you want and you will be provided the whole stuff on a single click. Initially my father also prefer reading the newspaper for daily updates but now a days he also used to explore everything on the social media.
On the other hand I slightly disagree with this habit of not reading newspaper. According to my point of view there are many benefits of reading the newspaper that anyone can have. To many extent it can increase the reading skills, and reading also makes you feel relax and helps someone to release the stress. As day by day people are forgetting the habit of reading and used to spend most of the time using the mobile phone for everything which to totally rise off the reading attraction in the society.
The solution for this problem is that the individuals have to read newspaper on the weekend foe some time so that they can be linked with the habit of the reading. And government should organise such a stalls that provide all types of newspaper freely to everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the shift toward online media and the potential decline of printed materials. However, the position is somewhat inconsistent; you state you 'somehow agree' and then 'slightly disagree', which makes your overall stance unclear. While you provide relevant arguments regarding convenience and the benefits of reading, the development of these ideas is limited. For instance, the suggestion that the government should provide free newspapers is a bit tangential and does not directly address the core of the prompt regarding the future of paid versus free content. To improve, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and maintained consistently throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' or 'also'. Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the logical progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. For example, the transition between the benefits of the internet and your father's reading habits is disjointed. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'stuff', 'things', and 'good/bad' concepts, which limits the sophistication of your argument. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'rise off the reading attraction' and 'provide all types of newspaper'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'digital transformation', 'accessibility', 'tangible media', or 'literacy habits'. Expanding your range of collocations will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people... has to manage'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'he also used to explore'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading your work to correct basic subject-verb agreement and article usage, and practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate punctuation.
