IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In contemporary era, due to advanced technology like social media, Google or other browsing software can helps people to stay with current affairs. However, some people believe that in future no one can buy newspapers or magazines. But, I partially disagree with this statement.
One main reason behind this statement is that in fast-pace era, every one busy in hustle and bustle life and younger generations mostly engage in mobiles. They easily access all current information from the internet like Google, Instagram, Twitter or so on online platform. It is very convenient and can easily read during travelling. A keen reader can read various books and store it in mobile phone. For example, a student can access internet and find out any current situation and also get various books from online. Therefore, it reduce monetary expense and can use anytime and anywhere.
However, I believe that printed books will continue in future because many people value the physical reading experience. Printed books do not require batteries, internet access or electronic devices, and It can easier for long time reading sessions. In addition, people often purchase physical books as collectibles, gifts or personal possessions. For instance, many readers prefer owning physical copies of novels by their favourite authors because they enjoy building a personal library and make some notes in book. Moreover, in online platform, can access books by subscription or purchase it. So, it is very costly.
In conclusion, although due to advanced technology we can access various information instantly without any time wasting. However, i believe that physical newspapers or books will remain in future because a keen reader gets valuable experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by presenting a clear position that partially disagrees with the statement. The arguments regarding the convenience of digital media and the enduring value of physical books are relevant and logically structured. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the claim that online platforms are 'very costly' is not fully supported or explained, as many digital resources are free or low-cost. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that all claims are substantiated with more nuanced reasoning and avoid over-generalising about the costs or habits of all readers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'In addition', and 'Therefore' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. There are also instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'In contemporary era' and the abrupt transition in the final paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'it' referring back to a clear noun) is consistent would enhance the overall coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary era', 'hustle and bustle', and 'collectibles'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'stay with current affairs' (instead of 'keep up with') and 'without any time wasting' (instead of 'without wasting time'). Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, such as 'can helps people'. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and ensure you are using vocabulary that fits the formal tone of an academic essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('software can helps', 'it reduce'), missing articles ('in future', 'in online platform'), and awkward sentence fragments ('and It can easier for long time reading sessions'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
