Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the convenience of online reading, the argument that 'nobody' will buy physical books is an extreme position that could have been balanced with a more nuanced discussion about the enduring appeal of physical media. The examples provided, such as students in Japan or the UK, are relevant but could be more effectively integrated to support your central argument. To improve, ensure that you fully explore the implications of your position rather than just listing reasons, and try to provide a more comprehensive analysis of the counter-arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed, such as in the third paragraph where the transition to the counter-argument feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'online', 'printed newspapers', and 'addicted'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'read online everything' instead of 'read everything online' and 'favour of older people' which is not the most precise collocation. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and idiomatic expressions, and pay closer attention to word choice and collocation to ensure your writing sounds more natural and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Technology play', 'older people is'), article usage (e.g., 'in upcoming year'), and missing prepositions or incorrect word order (e.g., 'no need to need carry'). While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage, and practice constructing more complex sentences with greater accuracy.
