IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
As we know that technology increases day by day. Everything become easy to excess. We can get a lot of information through online without paying. That's why, people often prefer to read online instead of reading printed books. But I prefer to read through books. In the following, I will give you reason to support my opinion.
From my prospective, I completely disagree with the statement that we should read online instead of books. Because if you are a student and try to read on mobile, you can easily distracted. There are lot of thing on internet that can distract you while studying on books is distraction free. There is nothing in book that can distract you.
Secondly, excessive use of mobile phone can make you lazy or disturb you health. For example, if you start using mobile for long time, you can notice that you eyes start paining. And if you don't take this seriously, this can lead to weak eye sights. Even some people got mental sickness. That's why i prefer reading on physical thing.
At last, Now people try to find all our their work on internet. But we should try to many of our works physically, because more screen time is harmful for you. It can also make your posture bad.
In conclusion, books should be read physically rather than on internet. You can study easily on books than on internet. Books can't be ignored even in this era. Surely internet can help you on study, but you should not completely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that printed media will disappear. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention distractions and health concerns, these points are not fully extended with sophisticated reasoning or specific examples. The argument remains somewhat superficial, and the conclusion is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should focus on providing more nuanced arguments, perhaps discussing the tactile experience of reading or the reliability of physical archives versus digital content, rather than focusing primarily on the negative health effects of mobile devices.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Secondly', 'At last', 'In conclusion'). Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be improved. For instance, the jump from discussing student distractions to the general health effects of mobile phones lacks a smooth connecting thought. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'thing'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'excess to' instead of 'access to', 'paining' instead of 'hurting' or 'straining', and 'physical thing' instead of 'printed material'. To improve, you should aim to use more academic vocabulary and precise collocations that are appropriate for an argumentative essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Everything become'), article usage ('on internet' instead of 'on the internet'), and tense consistency. Additionally, there are sentence fragments and awkward phrasing, such as 'you should not completely'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would be beneficial.
