Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding the future of printed media. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons for both perspectives, some points are under-developed or lack clear logical links to the main argument. For instance, the paragraph discussing the benefits of online media is slightly contradictory, as it lists reasons why people prefer online content but then mentions environmental sustainability as a separate point without fully integrating it into the argument. Your position is clear, but the supporting arguments could be more robustly explained to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In addition'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. There are also instances where the flow between sentences is abrupt, such as the transition between discussing mobile phones and environmental sustainability. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the logical progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'subscription', 'current affairs', and 'environmental sustainability'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'printed one' instead of 'printed ones', 'nay where' (likely a typo for 'anywhere'), and 'plate form' instead of 'platform'. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms are accurate. Expanding your range of vocabulary beyond basic descriptive terms would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Printed copy are'), article usage (e.g., 'lot of tress'), and prepositional errors. Additionally, there are punctuation mistakes, such as the unnecessary comma in 'They believe that , it provide'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining your use of complex structures will help you achieve a higher band.
