IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the upcoming era, the demand of traditional newspapers or books will be declined as individuals have access of internet to read and collect information online for free. I agree with the digitalization printed materials will less purchased, while I believe traditional printing method will not completely disappear.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why e-books will be significantely changes in the future. The predominent reason is that internet based reading materials are more convinient and easy accessibility. To explain it, it is much easier for individual to read any novels or books anywhere with access to internet, they do not need to carry newspaper or book everywhere. For instance, a survey conducted by Calgary University of Canada in 2022 which revealed that approximately 49% students read and gather important study material from their laptop or mobile phones. Moreover, digital books and news are updated immediately while printed newspaper outdated after publish. Hence, this will help public to always stay updated with present time.

On the other hand, I believe that printed material will not become completely obsolete because of mobile phone or digital alternatives distractions of notification. In other words, there are numerous people who wants to read their favourite books in peace without distraction as while reading on electronic device make people more unconcentrated. Therefore, need of traditional method of reading for being concentrated.

Moreover, it is also important to note that not everything on internet are free of cost. Many big agencies are established their business by selling e-books with subscriptions or other mode of payment. Additionally, to access online information, it is necessary to have internet. Thus, without internet connection they are not able to read anything.

In conclusion, although internet based books and newspapers are more convinient and accessible yet it will not completely disappear as traditional books have less disturbance and substancial concentration.
