IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The insertion of inovative online reading has significant benefits in our life that very limited amount of people will buy physical newspapers or books. Although digital reading provides substantial benefits like saving times and wide range of information, I completely disagree with the assertion that minimal citizens will read physical newspapers or books.
To commence with, the proponents of this view that believes that diagital reading will completely replaced the hard reading because it saves time as individuals that change the speed of news updates on mobile phones. For instance, if individuals wants to read or listen the particular news they can pause or forward the speed of channel and can listen to the news of their choice,consequently saving their time for other productive activities. Similarly, news on different platforms also offers numerous varieties of news. To illiustrate, if someone is interesting in sports news they are able to neglect the remaining sections and can select that sports news, likewise they can choose the other categories, as a result they enjoy the news related to their interests.
However, there are still some citizens who prefer physical reading over digital in this contemporary world because they tend to follow their culture more closly and some cultural practices are also part of their lives. For instance, elderly people are used to read newspapers or books and they reluctant to change their daily rading habits. Furthermore, they are more indulge in to their cultural way of reading and offers them to socialize. For example, as it brings the oppoprtunities to sit together and discuss the news or share their opinion about the books they have read.
In conclusion, While digital reading is time consuming and warry in range, I believe that it is a misconception that it will completely replace traditional forms of reading. Therefore, a practicle approach would be to strike a balance between the two and use them alongside each other.
