Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by agreeing that printed books and newspapers will vanish and be replaced by free online alternatives. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. The writer attempts a position in the introduction, stating 'I will agree this statement', but the supporting arguments throughout the body paragraphs are disjointed and lack depth. For instance, points regarding health effects on eyesight and the mention of specific countries like Australia and Canada where printed books might survive are introduced abruptly without sufficient elaboration. Consequently, the response aligns best with a Band 5 descriptor, where the task is addressed, but ideas remain underdeveloped and the position is not consistently maintained due to vague reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure, dividing the text into an introduction, several short body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, there is a clear lack of overall logical progression. Sentences within paragraphs are frequently disconnected, and cohesive devices are either misused or absent. For example, phrases like 'In this essay, I will explain my agree staement and it will acceptable my point of view' exhibit awkward transitions and referencing issues. Furthermore, the paragraphing is fragmented, with several single-sentence paragraphs that disrupt the flow of the argument. These mechanical and inadequate cohesive features place the response firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited vocabulary range that is minimally adequate for the task. There are frequent and noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation, such as 'platfroms' for platforms, 'extinict' for extinct, 'prblems' for problems, and 'tensions' instead of concerns or worries. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'vanish' and 'enhancement', but inaccurate collocations and persistent spelling mistakes cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and impede the clarity of the message at times. This reflects the characteristics of Band 4.5 to 5.0, fitting best into a Band 5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex structures that are heavily flawed. Throughout the response, there are frequent errors in basic sentence construction, verb tenses, and prepositions. Examples include 'people are becoming more addicted by social media', 'why will this happeens in the future', and 'online methods will definately effect on our eyessight'. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by stray full stops within clauses (e.g., 'such as. mobile games'). Because errors are frequent, cause considerable strain for the reader, and obscure meaning in several places, a Band 4 is appropriate.
