IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people believe that there would be no need to buy printed newspapers or books in the future as everything they want to read will be provided on the internet free of cost. I disagree with this view because large number of people still prefer to read printed books and it is an unrealistic assumption to believe that books will be free of cost.
First and foremost, most of the readers still prefer to read printed books and newspaper. This is mainly because people do not have to use any digital technology while reading printed books and individuals can detach themselves from this modern age while reading. It is also very convinient as individuals can carry books anywhere without having to worry about wi-fi or battery health. For example, people can read books at the park which cannot be done through online reading as there is no access to internet provided at the park.
In addition to this, it is quite unrealistic to assume that everything will be provided on the internet for free. In this modern age, everything needs money to operate. You cannot get anything in this era without money . For instance, writers need to get paid for their writing their books, journalists require payment for gathering information for thr newspapers and so on. Hence, I believe that the prediction of people regarding reading being free of cost is rather inaccurate and not realistic.
To conclude, i disagree with individuals who believe that books and newspapers will be provided digitally on the internet free of cost because majority of readers prefer to read printed books rather than digitalised ones and it is also quite unrealistic to assume that reading can be done without paying in the future.
