IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
Earlier newspaper is one of the major source of information or news. Even nowadays, when there is social media a large amount of people take news from online apps but, the is a large amount of people read newspaper.
Nowadays, internet has every information, regarding news also, people is a just click away to get any news and current affairs and they can access it from anywhere in the world and in any language. There has been a rapid growth of the internet and still going as its more convenient
for people to get any information just a click away they just want a internet connection.
While, in other hand, a newspaper is a good source of news and it has been going on since a very long time when internet was not there and not, the newspaper is accessible to the people when internet cant. For the newspaper people have to pay some money to get it, but in in internet they get free content. The Gen Z , alpha... generation These have a access of the internet since childhood and they a familiar with it. They prefer the online source of information rather then the offline like newspaper.
I agree with the statement that in the future nobody will buy printed newspaper because they can read everything online. This statement is true but, This is going to take a long time because the whole generation have to adapt the online form of information. the previous generation is familier with newspapers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether printed newspapers and books will be replaced by free online content in the future. The writer expresses a clear agreement with the statement, noting that while the transition will take a long time, the younger generation already prefers online formats. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and repetitive, with arguments lacking deep extension. The scope is somewhat narrow, focusing predominantly on newspapers while mentioning books only in passing in the thesis. Nevertheless, the main parts of the task are addressed, earning a band score of 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall structure are weak. The introduction is disjointed, and sentences within paragraphs often lack smooth transitions, for instance, starting sentences abruptly with phrases like 'While, in other hand' and 'The Gen Z , alpha... generation These have a access'. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun 'They' linking loosely to previous ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion requires better management. This performance aligns with a band score of 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on general paragraph organisation.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The lexical resource is limited and basic. The writer relies on simple vocabulary and repeats phrases such as 'just a click away' multiple times (e.g., 'people is a just click away', 'just a click away they just want a internet connection'). There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'major source of information or news' instead of 'sources', and 'have a access of the internet'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, such as 'familier'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the band 4.0/4.5 profile, justifying a band score of 4.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, but grammatical accuracy is very weak throughout the essay. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('people is a just click away', 'the whole generation have to adapt'), missing articles ('for newspaper people', 'on internet'), incorrect prepositions ('in internet'), and punctuation slips. Complex structures are often faulty, and these frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places. This corresponds to a band score of 4.0.
