IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary era, with advancement in technology the binary issue between printed and digital books have emerged a lot of discussion. People nowadays prefer reading online instead of buying books and newspaper to save time and money as well as it is more convenient.
Todays generation is busy due to the hustle and bustle of life and do not get time to purchase a book or read it. It is really easy to keep an e books in mobile phone and read whereever or whenever want to. For instance, someone heading towards home after a busy schedule can read a book on mobile phone to get a little escape from the hectic routine even while travelling such as in train or a cab.
Furthermore, people dont have to pay to read an online content and they feel it is much easier. For example, in past women were interested in reading novels but today they do not buy such novels however they download it from various websites and enjoy same novel that women in past paid to read.
In my perspective, this habit is subtly effecting the reading skills as people do not give much attention to reading because somewhere in their subconscious mind it is subsided that things that are free are not worth it. To illustrate, children are more involved in games rather than downloading books online and thus their ability to read is effected.
In conclusion, innovation is not harmfull but not focousing on the things that are being ignored because of this invention is.
